The following is a scan of a paper I wrote 30 years ago in grad school outlining Soviet film maker & theorist Sergei Eisenstein's montage techniques, specifically regarding the Odessa Steps sequence from Battleship Potemkin (1925) & how film makers like Woody Allen, Brian dePalma & Terry Gilliam paid homage to the sequence in their movies, Bananas, The Untouchables & Brazil, respectively. I was really into Russian Structuralism at the time & there is no better example than the steps sequence. Re-reading, I must admit I could have used a spell check, but the insight isn't half bad and I did get an A.
